Holiday with toddler!

Hi all,

I'm looking to take my 18 month old daughter away on holiday but I've absolutely no idea where to go!

I'd like to take her abroad but this fills me with dread due to flying/transfers at the other end.

Would anyone be able to kindly recommend any great holiday destinations abroad with short flights and short transfer times at the other end?

DS first holiday abroad was when he was 17 months old. It was a doddle - perfect age I think.

We went to Costa Del Sol - not v exciting, but a nice short flight and all the facilities and services we may have needed.

If you can keep it out of high season then prices will be better, and the weather more of a tolerable heat.

Mainland Spain is easy - and the Balearic Islands.

Probably book a package- then all the transfers are sorted and included for you.

When do you want to go ?

We took DS to the Costa del Sol at 9 months and Lanzarote at 16 months.

The Costa del Sol was good for a hassle free holiday - nice weather, good public transport and a short flight. There was also loads of stuff to do with kids - we went to the aquarium, up a huge cable car, to the beach etc. At 9 months DS was a bit too young to appreciate it but now he is 18 months I think it would be a great place to take him. We flew to Malaga and stayed in Torremolinos - the transfer was about 15 minutes by taxi. We went in May so the weather was hot but not too hot.

Lanzarote was good too. It was more relaxing than the Costa del Sol. It didn't have the same level of children's attractions as the Costa del Sol but was more about road trips and scenery. We hired a car for a few days so we could see more of the Island. We went in January and it was sunny but wasn't really warm enough for DS to play in the hotel pool. The flight was about 4 hours and we stayed about 15 minutes from the airport by taxi.

If we were staying further from the airport I probably would have booked a package so transfers were all sorted for us.

Our first holidays with the dc's were to places like Portugal and menorca. We hired a villa and a car.
