I am going to NZ in November and was tentatively wondering about incorporating a trip to another one of the Island in the South Pacific Ocean.

Has anybody ever done this and can anyone recommend a destination if so? Or is it a trip best planned for another time? :)

We've been to a few in the years we've lived in NZ. How long are you planning to be here?

We have used ourpacific.co.nz a few times and their website is quite good for info. The Air New Zealand website is good.

Thanks so much :) I can be flexible with dates up to a point but am currently planning for around a month (in November.)

a month is tight to see NZ as it is. 3 hour flight to the Cooks/Fiji etc.

I'd leave it and make the most of NZ. You'll have had enough of planes by the time you get there.

I went to samoa last year OP, about 3.5 hrs from Akl and a different world completely Smile Totally worth an extra flight imo!

We've been to Fiji and loved it. We stayed in a hotel on the coral coast and another on Malololailai. Flew from the UK though, not NZ.

Rarotonga in the Cook Islands is beyond magical. 4 hour flight from Auckland, they use kiwi dollars and everyone speaks English. Food is quite expensive but I've never had a holiday like it. Rent a scooter and you can drive around the whole island in about 50 minutes.

I would recommend Fiji, i wen last year and loved it, plus it's a relatively short flight. Go to one of the smaller islands (the beaches are nicer than the main island). We did some trips to various islands and loved Castaway the most.

Agree that Raro is magical and otherworldly. Very untouristed, too. I would love to go there again.

However, I do agree with the poster that said it's worth spending the month in nz, it's not a lot of time to see the country, unless you are intending to just focus on a smallish part.

I have flown via the U.S. before & stopped off in Tahiti for a few days. Beautiful & lovely people

A month is not long in NZ as travel times are long and roads are slow. You will find yourself very busy if you are planning to see the north and south islands. However, the Pacific islands are lovely and worth a visit, but I think only if you can be away for longer than a month. I have been to Raro a few times and even three weeks there seems inadequate! If you are flying with Air NZ via LA, you can drop into Raro on the way to or from Auckland. I think they stop there three times a week. The time differences can do your head in as Raro is something like 23 hours behind Auckland.
