I really need advice from someone who has been there with an 8yr old please. It's the resort bit I am struggling with, is Skala desperately quiet? We need somewhere where we can get an apartment or small hotel right on the beach, be able to walk easily to enough tavernas as to not get bored over 2 weeks and for the beach to be safe and sandy for 8 yr old.

I see that Lassi has lovely beaches and loads of tavernas but is a purpose built holiday resort and lacks something? We always hire a car to get around and explore but don't want to be driving the whole holiday IYSWIM?

The kind of Greek resorts we have liked before have been Alykes in Zante and some of the smaller resorts in Corfu, definitely not clubby but maybe with the odd cocktail bar.

We usually book flights and apartments seperately so plough through reviews etc but really struggling with the resort so far.

Any help greatfully appreciated. TIA

Have you looked at Fiskardo? It's a nice harbour town. I stayed in the Emelisse Art Hotel which was lovely but was before kids.

Thank you Bella, I did look at that. I read good things about that hotel. What are the beaches like in that area? Are there plenty of Tavernas?

Lassi is nice, I went there with two eight year olds.
I remember passing thro Skala it is quiet but nothing wrong with that.
Fiskardo is lovely too but I would recommend it as a day trip then you get to see that bay with a Greek cigarette name,,,,,cannot recall,,,Assos maybe>?
Anyway there are tavernas and beaches galore in all those places

Skala is lovely and child friendly. I recommend the makis hotel right on the beach front. Yes it's quiet but it's easily placed to explore the rest of the island. Lovely beach too. However its been a few years since I visited

Myrtos beach sunny?

Plenty tavernas in skala too. I don't think fiskardo has a beach, it's more of a harbour.

We used an independent Greek specialist called everymatic last year to book. They know all the really hidden gems

SunnyBaudelaire · 24/03/2015 11:21

oh and if your tour rep starts dissing the local bus service, they are lying, as it is v good, the reason they lie about it is to get you to hire a car as they are in the pay of the car hire companies.

SunnyBaudelaire · 24/03/2015 11:22

could have been Myrtos, but I have Assos in my head too. Anyway a beautiful beach with golden sand and emerald sea that you approach from way above.

another nice thing you can do with an 8 year old in Kefalonia is take the ferry over from Argostoli to the other part of the island. This is cheap and fun.
Also there is a massive turtle in the harbour at Argostoli that has been there for about a hundred years. There is also a good local market there.

Thesimplethings · 24/03/2015 11:24

Sounds like Myrtos to me, I love that beach. Went many years ago before it was made easily accessible. I want to go back to kefalonia now Grin

Oh Thank you for all the great advice. Can't decide between Skala and Lassi now. Will see all of island hopefully as we like to explore. :)
