Best airline (flying economy) to Australia

We're hoping to go at Christmas to spend time with family there.

Because we want as much time with them as we can, we'll go for the shortest break in the flight as possible - i.e. only a couple of hours in Singapore/Dubai/Bangkok, wherever the stop is.

I fly a lot for work, but mostly business (I know, lucky me! Smile), so I'm not really sure what the economy cabins are like on these longer flights.

We're lucky that we don't have to look for the absolutely cheapest fares - and it might be possible to upgrade to premium economy if it's worth it.

But does anyone have any recent experience with any airline that means you'd recommend for/against travelling with them?

many thanks!

Not to Australia but we flew Emirates to Dubai and I would say that at least half the passengers on board were en route to Australia with a stop over there.

We are going again in 8 weeks and flying Emirates again as were so impressed. My husband travels all the time (at least twice a month) and always uses them. Not sure about the Dubai to Australia part though.

Emirates are very good for long haul routes. If you go business class you get a free transfers from home to airport then onto hotel and vise versa. Think it's within 50 miles though.

Argh! Sorry, just noticed you said economy. They are still very good, would highly recommended them.

Not Malaysian airlines. I am not trying to make a bad joke. My experience of them comes pre-missing plane/ shot down plane.

Virgin, BA or Emirates all good. I like Virgin the best.

Cathay via Hong Kong.

New zealand premium economy is good. They also have an option in economy where you buy two seats pay a supplement for a third and they make the row into a bed. It's a bit short for me (5 11") but meant my son could sleep flat. Singapore for economy

Singapore airlines every time. Used to live in singapore, have flown emirates, qantas, BA etc. singapore airlines beats them all hands down, plus changi airport is excellent for transfers, very easy to navigate, spotless showers, swimming pool, butterfly garden. Know you're in a rush but you might have a couple of hours.....

Thanks all.

I flew Emirates (business) to Vietnam recently and was very impressed, so will check them out.

I was hoping to be able to use airmiles, which would have restricted me to BA, but (perhaps not surprisingly) there are no flights available using airmiles on the dates we want to go.

And Malaysian Airlines is definitely on my 'no' list! Grin

Thanks all

Great deals with Malaysian at the moment though.... And their safety will be excellent. My dad is booking through them now for a trip to Asia.

We were quite happy with Etihad/Virgin Australia last year and are using them again this summer but I've nothing to compare them with.

We had bad experience with Emirates,so will not fly with them again. Best flights were with Singapore and Qatar airlines.
