Carnival: how much extra money?

I'm on a major holiday planning mission atm! I've found a carnival cruise in the med that looks great and affordable. However, how much extra do we need to take for drinks, tips and days out? We usually....
*have a couple of drinks at lunch and wine on an evening (can we take any drinks on with us?!)
*might have one or two posh meals
*will probably do our own days off the ship but roughly how much extra for this?
*we'll be using the night owls babysitting

Would £1k do it or will it be much more than that?

Does the website have a FAQ page? P&O has one which links to bar price lists, 'extra' restaurant prices, tipping policy etc.

Sorry - pressed send too soon

**which should help you budget. Shore days will depend on where the stops are - some places are more expensive than others.

Have a look at cruise critic. Go into the community pages and then find the carnival forum.
There you will be able to get an idea of questions people have asked about costs on board, speciality restaurants etc.
You can also join the roll call for the cruise you are interested in and see if any one is organising or can recommend private excursions as they are often cheaper than the ships tours.
Some of the ports can be a far trek (about an hour or so) from the major cities.

Hey, I've had a look on cruise critic now and can report back that the average extra that people spend is about $500 per couple. We'll have about £1000 for the week so hopefully that will be enough. I've had a look at excursions and a lot of the ports are quite close to where we want to be. And as it's the med we're quite happy sorting our own transport out - most have train stations really close to the port.

Overall, i think this might be quite a reasonable holiday!
