Hi all, I'm looking for advice on hotels in amalfi. Trying to book a surprise week there just me and DH in September, running into problems as there are so many nice hotels I am incapable of making a decision! Has anyone been or got any recommendations?

Do you want hotels in Amalfi itself, or on the Amalfi coast?

We visited Amalfi on a boat trip from Sorrento, so I can't recommend any hotels.

Just one word of advice - avoid the high priced ice cream shops on the tourist trail between the jetty and the cathedral. We got ripped off, and later that evening OH felt as if his insides were being ripped out due to a horrible dose of the runs.

When I was a student I drove down the Amalfi coast from Naples. It has to be the most beautiful place I have ever seen (outside the Scottish Highlands).

No advice on hotels though - I was a poor student. Cheap digs and packed lunches all the way.

We honeymooned in Amalfi and stayed at the Hotel Marina Riviera.

We stayed in Atrani (just round the headland from Amalfi) out of season.

I would say that unless you are desperate to stay in Amalfi, that you look to stay in Sorrento or Positano.

There was very little to do out of season, though that may be what you are after! Whilst it was very beautiful, I probably wouldn't choose to stay in that particular stretch again.

I loved Amalfi, but hated Sorrento.

go sorrento. Amalfi is lovely but it's sooooo quiet, literally nothing there!
