Does anyone have any recommendations for insect repellent for a 5 month old baby? We are going to Mauritius in a few weeks.

DEET is fine for anyone over 2 months, and is the only thing that works. Mauritius is a dengue zone so don't take chances - repellent day as well as night. Keep it off the baby's hands and keep the child covered as much as possible.

There is a brilliant product that is designed for families - called Mozzie guard. Available from Amazon. I started using it in the Maldives as I was pregnant and couldn't used a deet based spray. It was so good it has become our family choice of repellent and has been used all over the med, Egypt and on further trips to the Maldives.

the 'natural' stuff does indeed work, and the evidence for Mosi-guard is good. It won't last as long as DEET so reapply regularly throughout the day and before bed.

interested to discover that citronella is now withdrawn from sale; that also worked but for about 30 seconds!
