Arriving in France on Late May Bank Holiday - Will shops be open?

That's it really.

We arrive on the 25th May and that's a bank holiday in France too so do we need to bring stuff with us? We're camping so don't want to spend £££ eating out on the first day.

I would suspect they are closed. It may depends also on the region, rural France, yes, Paris maybe. We were in Paris on a Bank Holiday and lots of shops were open but it seems there was no pattern what was closed and what not.

If you drive then have enough fresh food with you to last the evening and the next morning and then go shopping.

Yes, I guess we should bring stuff with us. I mainly go to France for the wine food though so it seems wrong to bring our own.

Mad we always arrive on a Saturday, late afternoon and nowt is open until Monday really, so would assume Bank Holidays will be the same.

Take food with you to get you through the first day, or are you staying at a site? We don't camp, but often visit a lake with a campsite beside it and the food bar is always open.

I live in rural France and I think you would probably be OK with that one. The 1st May everything will be shut, but Pentecost is about the fourth bank holiday in May and usually quite half-hearted. Mind you some small shops will be shut anyway because it is Monday. If you can find out which supermarkets are nearby, you might be able to check the website.

Agree with emily about checking websites if possible. I am also in rural France and the few small shops here will be open in the morning (those that open on Mondays that is!) but closed by 12:30.
