Ideas to have family holiday in hotel but not sharing a room e.g Majorca

We'd like to go abroad with family 2 adults, 2 children aged 6 and 8 and our preference is Majorca but not wedded to this idea. I can't somewhere that meets our criteria so hoping some wise mums can help.

We would like to not have to share a room with DCs unless someone can persuade me that 4 people in a room, 2 of which are sharing a sofa bed, works and feels like a relaxing holiday.

We'd like to stay somewhere 'naice', not brash or too busy.

Some sort of children's club would be good as children seem to enjoy these.

We'd like access to a pool.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

We always stay in a 2 bedroom apartment when we on holiday. Went to Sa Coma in Majorca last year, it was nice enough but not naice. Has everything you're looking for though. Booked through Thomson.

We stayed at the Vista Badia also in Sa Coma last year. We had a separate bedroom and there were kids beds in the living room. We put our son to bed in our room and moved him when we went to bed. There was a Thomson Kids Club in another hotel on the same site - the Safari I think. The Vista Badia was mainly German (not a problem, I'm just mentioning) and the Safari was more British and a much larger hotel - multiple dining rooms.

Do you want somewhere with two bedrooms, or are you happy with one bedroom and sofa beds in the living area?

Just asking, because we are a family with three children and we could find hardly anywhere in Majorca that had two bedrooms and could therefore accommodate us in one unit. The majority of package holiday searches I did came up with one bed appartments and were making us book 2 apartments for a family of 5.

Our preferred resort is Puerto Pollensa, there are two complexes that have 2-bed apartments but one is at least a mile (if not more) out of the resort in the road to Alcudia and the other is a good 15 minute walk inland from the resort along roads without a pavement. Neither of those are any good for us, we want to be in the resort itself.

We are returning to the Puerto Azul Aparthotel in Puerto Pollensa in May this year. These are half board, you get a living room with a fridge, a big bathroom and a bedroom. We've not been able to book a package, but by contacting the hotel directly they are happy to put an extra bed in the bedroom (which no UK tour operator will do).

When we were there two years ago (which was booked as a package, with Thomson, because DD2 was an 'infant' under 2) we used the bedroom for the children and DH and I slept in the living area on the sofa beds. It was perfectly ok for us, and the apartments have been refurbished since then and all-new sofa beds have been put in there.

Going on what you've written, Puerto Pollensa would be ideal and most of the package holiday places have kids clubs. The Puerto Azul does, it's run by the hotel themselves though not a UK tour operator, so it wasn't full-on childcare. More just stuff going on that the kids could join in if they wanted to. Our older two really liked it, one reason we didn't just book a private apartment is that they are really sociable and love to meet other kids (plus they just fight with each other all of the time, so a holiday in a private apartment for our family just isn't a holiday at all!)

Thanks for the replies.

I think we want a 2 bed apartment so we don't wake the children in the evening and so they don't wake us early in the morning.

Our 2 bed apt was at the Coma Gran in Majorca.

Walkingtheplank our kids were that age last year but we never managed to get them to bed earlier than us Smile we were out having fun until late. We had a villa on a complex in Portugal.

Yes we did find our son stayed up much later than usual enjoying the entertainment - often to 10pm - and had a 2 hour nap in the shade on the balcony in the afternoon when he'd stopped having them at home. In fact when we'd arrived at the hotel we'd worried the meal times would be too late for him but it wasn't a problem at all as he quickly adjusted. If he'd been older just having one separate bedroom might have been a problem.

Iberostar hotels are hard to beat.
The have adjoining family rooms, pools, really good food & kids clubs.
