Thinking of going...any opinions? What's the sea like....I'd like somewhere where the sea is crystal clear and warm Smile

It's beautiful. Jewel in the ocean.

Gorgeous. Sea is stunning; go out to the little islands on the boat trips. It will be hot in august but cold beer is cheap!

Great, that could well be the clincher to get DH to agree to it!

Yes, gorgeous. Make sure you walk the top of the walls - early or late in the day before the coach trips descend though.

Definitely get out to some of the islands as well.

It is beautiful but very touristy. If you can see beyond that you will love it. The local people are truly lovely. Some of the restaurants are a bit basic but if you search off the beaten track you will find some gems. There are some lovely little wine bars too. Try the local sparkling wine, it is very nice.
We stayed about a mile outside the town in a fabulous spa hotel. We walked into town a fair bit, but it gets hot!
Have a lovely time.

It's absolutely gorgeous. The sea is crystal clear and warm. We went last July and plan on going back this year. You can check which day the cruise ships dock, so you know when to avoid the old city- here.

Lovely, but it will be very hot and very busy in August. Try to get out to some of the islands; the sea is amazing. Beaches are rocky though, but that can make for good snorkelling.

We've been - loved it. But, no sandy beaches, unless you go to one of the islands, like Lopud. And, I found the sea to be absolutely freezing and we went in August!

We went in May two years ago. the weather was disappointing, but it is a lovely place. We stayed here and it was lovely. It was an easy bus ride to the old town, but in a quieter area. There is a nice walk to the other side of the peninsula where there is a small beach.

Yes been twice and absolutely loved it. First time stayed right within the city walls. Really loved this as we could spend every night there when the cruises had all gone and it was a different place - much much quieter and just a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Second time stayed in a nice hotel in Lapad. Bit of a trek to get to the old town but suited us as had a little one and wanted to spend half of it doing boat trips/chilling by pool/somewhere quieter. Was fab.

Not yet, but am going in June. it does look very beautiful.

That cruise ship tour timing info is v useful just. thanks.

It's beautiful, but when I went I stayed on the island of Sipan, which was gorgeous and deserted with warm sea and a few nice walks to go on. We then took the ferry to Dubrovnik for a day trip, which took about an hour.

It was lovely to see, but it was also nice to be able to get back to the island and escape the crowds! If you're going for a week I'd definitely say stay on the island and do day trips to Dubrovnik instead.

Lovely lovely place.

Restaurants are much cheaper at the port than in the old town.

We stayed in Cavtat and got the water taxis into Dubrovnik. It was lovely.
