Kinderhotel could be fine with 3 and 5 year old as any language barrier probably not a big issue. Kids are kept busy with their activities and great play areas.

Some of the staff do speak English but only ever seen one or two other English speaking families in a KH.. Some KHs are based on a (private) lake so u could have your usual beach holiday in mountainous surroundings!

If you like good food and mountain hikes or strolls and don´t mind not having English-speaking company on holiday you will probably LOVE a KH. The all-inclusive deals have been fantastic IME - very cheap compared to English package holidays. From what I´ve heard Esprit, Mark Warner et co they don´t have a patch on the quality of a KH holiday and are much more expensive.

Oh, many KHs also have the whole spa thing - saunas, steam baths, infra red rooms, massage, full beauty service, etc.. One week we had all of these facilities to ourselves - didn´t see any of the other guests - a real sign of how much there is to do!

Do a search noonar - someone on here was poised to make a complaint about the promised childcare, I think. IIRC the hotel itself was delightful, the Mner was just not happy about their ability to welcome English families...

I think you should assume limited English in a Kinderhotel childcare and standards which could well differ to UK ones. Someone on MN had a disapppointing experience with one where limited English was spoken, her child cried and she was soon asked to collect him.

We did an Esprit holiday to Chamonix one year - bargain deal - and found the hotel a bit decrepit and childcare ok but not great although we didn't use it much. Food was very good btu children ate earlier and had to go to bed by dinner time unless 5 or over. Similarly we've seen Esprit clubs out and about in Saas Fee in the summer and they didn't really make the most of the setting (a kick about on astroturf), seemed to be largely run by students and the nursery room basic and not large.

We've done many mountain holidays with our 2, now 5 and 8, and have had fun but you need to choose a resort/accommodation with activities for all weathers and ages.

You have a better memory than me Lizs. I wonder if Nottsmum ever did get a reply?

thankyou for your very informative replies

the childcare issue seems like a bit of a gamble, tbh. not sure i want to take a chance with my 2 yo in particular, as it could make or break the holiday.

maybe we will go back to mousses lefkas next summer, and do the alps during winter.
thanks again.
