Rome hotel advice - any areas to avoid?

I need to find a cheapish hotel in Rome for 2 nights at the end of March. We do not arrive until 9pm and don't fancy walking far from station with kids and cases in tow. Any recommendations? should I avoid any areas?

We stayed at the Hotel Traiano (was great price in October) on Via 4 Novembre which is very central. There is a bus station right next door to the train station. Can't remember the number but the right bus took us past the hotel front door and the stop is about 50 yds further down. It was max 10mins on the bus & buses were frequent. We happily walked back to the hotel after evening meals at restaurants.
