Looking for Inspiration - similar to Old Village in Vilamoura

Hello,
I'm looking for inspiration for our summer holiday with my 2 daughters aged 6 and 4.
We will be going at beginning of July for a week. I will be taking our girls for the week and my husband will be joining us for 4 days. (due to running our own business)

Last year we stayed at The Old Village in Vilamoura in Portugal and we loved it for a number of reasons:

  • Self Catered apartments meaning we could eat out in different restaurants at night.
  • part of a group of accommodation so the girls could make friends at the pool during the day (without being part of an "all inclusive/resort" type of place)
  • Close to Faro airport (only 25mins) which was very important since my husband is only joining us for 4 days - we don't want to waste his holiday time travelling.
  • Loved the Marina in Vilamoura for restaurants/entertaining the kids at night without it being resort type entertainment.

We loved The Old Village and may end up going back there but I like to go to different places so am looking for similar recommendations.

Thanks for any inspiration you can give us.

I've not been to Vilamoura but what you are describing sounds very like two places we've been to (and loved) in Mallorca - Puerto Pollensa and Puerto Soller and/or Soller town.

Actually maybe I should look at your place now :)

Alvor in the Algarve is lovely

We've been to Puerto Pollensa and loved it but weren't that keen on where we stayed. It was the Playa Mar Aparthotel and although the kids loved it, we're not that keen on the whole Thomson holiday with entertainment type of thing.
Where did you stay?
Thanks

Ah I totally agree, we stayed there once and never again. I hate the evening entertainment and all that stuff.

However there are lots of rentals available on the Pine Walk (an area which we loved) and if we were going again that's what we would do.
Alternatively Soller town itself really is a fab town and you can get a tram to the beach (or walk through orange groves if your children are good walkers). We stayed at Ca's Curial and it was utterly fabulous. But there are also rental options etc available. The town at night seemed great for kids, a big open square with lots of spanish restaurants and places to sit and eat ice cream - all the local/Spanish children were running around having a ball. (We went without kids but have plans to return en familie).

Good luck!
