Barcelona - July or late October?

We may need to postpone a planned trip at Easter to Barcelona, depending on my gallbladder op - likely to be sometime during March which feels too close. Due to holiday insurance excess it seems it will be cheaper to reschedule than to cancel the flights (plus insurance will only pay if cancellation is actually medically necessary). Due to other commitments etc, the only weeks I can move it to are last week in July (first week of DS age 9's school holidays) or October half term. DH thinks July will be too hot while I wonder whether late October will be mild enough to enjoy cafe culture etc - any thoughts?

We went in July a few years ago and it was far too hot for sightseeing. Simply walking about was too much in the heat of the day, which was a shame as I wanted dc to enjoy being there and to show them all the bits I loved when I had been there before.

Such a beautiful city though. I think it would be better to go in October.

I went at the end of October a few years ago as it fitted with school half term, and it was perfect weather..... high 70's to mid eighties.Did lots of walking, sightseeing, tapas bars and wine drinking tasting. Loved it.

I plan on going back at some point, and will choose the same time of year again.

July will be too hot there for a city break. Different if you're going to spend all day on the beach or in a swimming pool. October is better for sightseeing.

October. Definitely.

I went in July 2013.
It was mega hot.
We boiled alive on the tourist bus

Loved it though.
But my kids would have moaned like drains in that heat.

Seems the consensus is October - thanks!

We have been twice in July and it was fine. Great weather for the beach, and the city centre has plenty of shade, and is buzzing in the cooler evening.
