Hi, looking for suggestions of things to see or do around San Diego as I am having a lovely trip away from the kids in June. I have been with the kids so not interested in theme parks and I will be hiring a car.

I plan to shop but want to make the most of my time and I haven't booked my accommodation yet so can be flexible with my movements.

It may be worth driving up along the coast - Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica (and into LA).

We live in LA and only go to San Diego for the theme parks. I am not sure there's much else, the zoo maybe?

Gosh I love San Diego. But I would be happy just to eat and go to the beach! Just a little further up the coast, not as far as LA, is Mission San Juan Capistrano. I love the missions: a bit of history in a place we don't think of as having historic sites. It's a lovely place. And there's a Ruby's there in the town as well, for some delicious diner food.

Oh bloody hell, I can name a million nice adult things to do in SD. Say what you'd do in a city that offered anything & everything, OP, I'll give some specifics.

fab museums in the balboa park area, or the San Diego mission itself. San Juan Capistrano as a pp mentioned is also lovely. Old Town San Diego is great if you like history, as is Point Loma. What kind of things are you into? I used to live in southern california so know the area pretty well.

An early morning segway tour of Mission Beach boardwalk for two hours...
Also fun going on the train and getting on and off at the various stops and locations...
