I'm going to London tomorrow but my appointment should be finished by midday. My train home is booked for 7pm so I've got quite a lot of time to fill. I was thinking of going to the National Gallery as there's an exhibition I'd like to see. Also a visit to Uniqlo is on the cards. I know London quite well but I'm usually there with the kids rather than alone. Any ideas what I can do and where I'd feel comfortable eating alone? Thanks

Ooh how lovely!! Which part of London will you be in? If it was me I would go to the V&A museum as its my most fab place in London and then maybe further west to Chiswick or Richmond as these are my old stomping grounds so know them well.

Opposite the V and A is a fab restaurants called Comptoir de libanaise.
It does great wraps and mint tea.
It's a bustling place and I saw a few lone diners.

Chinatown! Get a big bowl of ho fun noodles with won ton from Hung's on Wardour Street.

Or Malaysian from C & R on Rupert Court.

V&A would be good, but what about trying to see a matinee - last minute.com should be able to give you some idea of what on.

Thank you. Chinatown sounds good. The appointment is near Kings Cross and my train also leaves from there. I looked at exhibitions at V and A and there wasn't anything I was interested in but I hadn't thought to just wander around the main museum!

There don't seem to be many matinees on a Tuesday. I think Woman in Black may have been on but I'm too scared to go on my own!

Do you like The Railway Children? There's the show on at King's Cross and they have a matinee on the Tuesday.

I am so jealous - currently trying to convince 10 month old dd, who has chicken pox, to sleep while panicking that 3.6 year old ds will shit himself left alone inside... can I come?!

the British museum is cool for a wander, and I'd probably feel comfortable lone dining at most places on old Compton St. or there used to be a great tapas place really close to kings cross. Enjoy!

Oops, just noticed your post was yesterday... hope you enjoyed it :)

Showtunes, do you reckon a 22 month old be able to sit through the railway children show?

showtunesgirl · 25/02/2015 12:40

It says on the show website that children under two will not be admitted!

I would probably think that this is a health and safety issue and the show is probably a bit long for them at this age anyway.

If you're wanting to take your LO to a show, there's loads of other shows on at The Unicorn theatre and The Gruffalo Live is coming back to the West End come July.
