Weekend in Dubrovnik?

Would like to go away for a long birthday weekend as a family - me, dh, and 5 and 7 year old) in June - and quite fancy Dubrovnik. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? Was initially thinking of something in the UK but now have been struck by a sudden desire to go away. Have never been to Croatia and Dubrovnik looks beautiful.

We went to Croatia last year and stayed in Lapad, which was a 5/10 minute bus journey away from Dubrovnik old town. The old town is beautiful, especially at night - you can do a walk around the old town walls, and there are some great restaurants and bars and amazingly cheap, delicious ice cream. The beaches around Dubrovnik are pebble if that bothers you. There is a sandy beach in Lopud island, which is a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik. SHould be nice and warm in June.

DH and I went to Dubrovnik four years ago and loved it. It isn't an obvious place to take young DC though as its a small, walled city and there really isn't much there to interest them. If you're determined to go I would stay in a nice hotel with a pool on the beach (in Lapad, for example), and then venture into the city by bus or taxi for a wander, lunch or an ice cream. Be aware though that the attractions tend to be of the adult kind - museums, churches, etc.
