Where to stay in Yosemite National Park?

OH & I are hoping to spend 3 night visiting Yosemite National Park as part of our honeymoon this October.

We've heard that accommodation within the park itself gets booked up really quickly. It also appears somewhat pricier than accommodation just outside the park, from which you could drive into the park.

I'm wondering whether, if you've visited, could you advise whether it's worth the extra money to stay within the park itself? It's tricky to get an idea of the scale of the park online and I wouldn't want to spend half of my time there in the car.

We've seen this place, which works out at about £110 per night, which is ideal for our budget and is 2 miles from the south entrance to Yosemite (the side we need to be, as we're travelling up from San Francisco)

Could any of you recommend any other lodges in the area? Do you think the location of the one I've got my eye on is ok, or realistically, do we need to be further in to avoid an epic journey every day?

Thanks in advance!

Tenaya is nice but it is over an hour into the valley. Also it is the wrong entrance if you are going to and from SF. If the valley is where you want to be, then try for a place there. you should be able to find a room for October as it is not high season.

Thank you Popular - which entrance would you advise is best for accessing the park from SF?

We stayed at Curry Village in the park, in one of the canvas cabins. It was basic but comfortable and great to be in the park itself, especially in the evening when all the visitors had gone home. Wold highly recommend it.

We're here for two nights in July. We booked in October and this was the best of what we could afford and what was left. We're $412 for two nights inc tax in a family room. Your deal seems fine to me but if you can get nearer for another £30 a night I'd probably go for nearer. I think all the accommodation locally will be in use just about 365 days a year so none of it is going to be remarkable. We're also driving in from SF.

Check out the Yosemite forum on Tripadvisor. But honestly you can find a place to stay in the valley in October. Book now. Tenaya is near the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, which is great to see, but its a long, windy road from the valley and will add hours to your journey to and from SF. Check out Curry Village as it has lots of spaces. Yosemite Lodge is more expensive but I bet you'll find space there too.

Thanks everyone, after researching further I've decided to stay in the valley. I've booked a room in Yosemite Lodge for now as you can cancel up to one week before with no charge.

We went last August. Couldn't get anything in the Valley floor. Of the gateway towns Mariposa was a lovely quaint little town with some accomodtion. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Oakhurst (I think). Not so quaint but we liked it.

We did look at the Wawona Hotel in the park and loved, loved loved it. Beautiful old building and beautiful grounds. It had been booked out when we were looking, but they had rooms when I enquired at the desk and no more expensive than the bog standard (perfectly fine) Comfort Inn. Worth a look.
