Cancun

Pamela Anderson got married there, so that should give you a clue as to its overall ambience but you can certainly get luxury

Smurfgirl · 21/10/2006 15:36

Hmm.

go inland a bit to Merida and get something molto authentico

NotQuiteCockney · 21/10/2006 15:40

I'm sure there are nicer all inclusives, I don't think Mexico is that nice. Barbados etc are nicer, from what I know.

(I went to Mexico, in February, for a funeral type thing. Not the same thing, obviously.)

tiredemma · 21/10/2006 15:41

moon palace. loads of people from work have been there ( im a travel agent)- very romantic apparently- perfect for honeymoon

Smurfgirl · 21/10/2006 15:42

Hmm. Thanks. Am vaugely thinking about how much we will need to save for honeymoon, its all v £££ for somewhere hot in November. Oh well, its not for a while.

Cancun is the pits nothing like Mexico just tourism gone mad -- you might as well go to Benidorm...

Are you sure about all inclusive that means you won't get to eat real mexican food which is gorgeous... you will just get Tex Mex and american food... Personally I love love love mexico and have been several times.... but stay in cheaper hotels still good ones -- but get out to eat the food, see the sites.. We did stay in an all inclusive one in Puerto Vallarta and it would have put me off mexico for life if I had to see the stunning mexico city, San Miguel de Allende... the fantasic ruins at chichen itza
palenque oaxaca etc....

Sorry not giving you answer you need.... but I think mexico is just such a great country going to Cancun or Cozumel on an all inclusive just means you get to miss the real place... if you want luxury and all inclusive, I would not fly all that way!!

tiredemma · 21/10/2006 15:43

what about cuba/cayo cocos, not as expensive as mexico.

mancmum · 21/10/2006 15:44

sorry -- meant to say ..."if I had NOT seen " the sites...

Smurfgirl · 21/10/2006 15:44

Is it nice?

We want to spend about £2000 for a week but it seems like all we can get is 4* in lanzarote which is not v.exotic for honeymoon is it?

OP posts:
Smurfgirl · 21/10/2006 15:45

Sorry is Cuba nice?

what dates and ill give you an idea of what you can get.

mancmum · 21/10/2006 15:46

you can get maldives for that budget which is fab and makes for a great honeymoon resort... only if you can put up with your other half 24x7 as there is nothing to do except swim and be more in love than people next door!

Smurfgirl · 21/10/2006 15:48

Its ages away Emma so its no big thing I was just wondering. Would be maybe late october/early november 08. Just bored and flicking through holiday brochures.

We just want some luxury and somewhere a bit special.

Morocco? Turkey? They'd be warm then, wouldn't they? Oh, those funny little islands off the west coast of Africa are meant to be nice ...

tiredemma · 21/10/2006 15:53

well dont go by the brochure prices because different offers always come up.

for example- a weeks 4-5* ai in cuba for next nov is approx 699-750pp

mexico is approx 850pp

WestCountryLass · 21/10/2006 20:18

We went to Cozumel last June and the island was lovely for a day trip but our hotel was a bit scabby (supposedly 5*), we transferred to Iberostar Paraiso del Mar and it was fantastic. A really lovely resort and fairly close to the attractions if you want to do them.

We went to Sri Lanka in late October/early November and that was fab, really fantastic.

Mell2tingPotofGooooooo · 22/10/2006 11:15

Is it only for a week? I have booked Aruba with Eclipse but you have to go for 2weeks. Works out about £1000pp AI for 2 wks.

Think NQC means Cape Verde islands.

Carribbean would be a long flight for a week. Egypt would be very warm that time of year and you can get 5star luxury.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/10/2006 19:04

I do mean Cape Verde Islands, thank you!

The jetlag is a killer, too. If you're only going for a week, don't put up with more than 2 or so hours of jetlag. It takes a day per hour of jetlag to recover, so Mexico, at 6 hours +, is 6 days of mooning about feeling poorly.

mustcackleorsuckbloodmore · 22/10/2006 19:07

Mexico was our best holiday ever! Outside of Cancun, 5* (Riu), did loads of things like cave diving and sea kayaking, and a jungle trek. Hotel fantastic. Cost just over £1000 each, 5 yrs ago.

beckybraAAARGHstraps · 22/10/2006 19:11

Xpu-Ha Palace, on the Yucatan peninsula, about 1.5 hours from Cancun, was wonderful! It was badly damaged in the hurricanes, but has been rebuilt and looks pretty good still. Nothing like the 'real' Mexico I'm sure, but it depends what you're after.

jetsetmum · 28/10/2006 02:19

Is it just you and htb going on honeymoon?

If so best all inclusive in mexico (but adults only) is Excellence Riveria
It's in the Mayan Riviera just below Cancun & is a fantastic honeymoon destination - rose petals on your bed on arrival, double bed sun loungers.... & you can visit Chichen Itza etc - which are a sight to be seen.

cowmad · 28/10/2006 02:39

yes I used to live there
what do you want to know exactly?
are you taking children?
you could hire a "nannie" to stay WITH you for one week of the holiday
chitchen itza good for a day out but its very inland and hot hot hot and isnt really for children due to distance travelling and boredom level for children
medrida is good but once again for grown ups

best romantic place

isle de muheres

island of mothers
if you want any more ...just ask...
