Beautiful beach is our priority - any ideas?

I would love some ideas for places to go. Our priorities would be:

Beautiful golden sand beach - sandcastle sand and good for swimming.

Fairly upmarket and quiet.

Would prefer self-catering, but with restaurants close by.

We can go just before the end of UK term - different holidays.

Flight - preferably short haul but we are open to long-haul too.

Nowhere too flat - I like to see a bit of up and down!

Places we have been to and enjoyed include Martinhal (but DH does not want to go back due to risk of windy weather), Marinha Beach in Algarve and that bit around Carvoerio. We also went to Langkawi, Malaysia.

Went to Vendee and weather was poor so we were put off going there again.

Thanks.

Forgot to say, it would be two adults and one small child.

What about Lagos in Portugal, I know you've been around Carvoerio, but it's still not exactly the same place...
Corsica - pricey but lovely beaches.

Sardinia
Ibiza

I'm going to the costa smerelda in Sardinia this year.
Google it.
The beaches are amazing.

thehumanjam · 30/01/2015 14:45

Halkidiki has nice beaches and hotels.

Mintyy · 30/01/2015 14:48

The beach at Lagos is not beautiful and all the surrounding ones are very crowded in the summer holidays.

ihatethecold · 30/01/2015 17:07

The best beach I've been to recently was on the gulf coast of Florida.
Absolutely gorgeous.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/01/2015 17:45

Mintyy, I agree, not the actual beach at Lagos (do you mean by the Marina?). We were there last summer and Dona Ana and Praia Meia (sp) were both surprisingly quiet. The coastline is spectacular IMO, though.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/01/2015 17:46

thehumanjam, are the beaches in Halkidiki sandy or pebbly? I'm looking for summer holiday destinations now - a sandy beach is a must for me Smile

MaybeDoctor · 30/01/2015 18:10

Ooh thank you.

Sardinia appeals - I speak some Italian. Any suggestions for hotels or resorts?

Whereabouts in Florida was that? I would be interested in seeing the space memorabilia, if that is nearby.

I like the sound of Halkidiki, but isn't the standard of accommodation a bit lower in Greece than Portugal overall?

Are there any clubs in Ibiza suitable for two adults who turned 40 this year? :)

I've booked an apartment with a pool for Sardinia on AirBnb.
It worked out alot cheaper.
Total for flights to Olbia and accommodation in august for 2 adults and 2 teens was £1500.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/01/2015 19:01

Blimey, ihatethecold, how long is that for? Great price. We've used AirBnB before, and always found them to be great.

ihatethecold · 30/01/2015 19:02

Sorry meant to say that the beaches on the gulf in Florida that I've been to are Clearwater and treasure island.
I'd really live to go slightly further down to the Sarasota beaches.
The apartment we had on treasure island was on the beach.
We could lay in bed and watch wild dolphins.

ihatethecold · 30/01/2015 19:03

Sardinia is a week.
Accommodation was just over a grand. Flights were dead cheap.

Eastwickwitch · 30/01/2015 19:04

I second Corsica; stunning beaches with amazing mountainous backdrop. Great food too.

applecatchers36 · 30/01/2015 19:17

The area around Lagos in Portugal has some lovley beaches
Or Spetses a tiny Greek Island with beautiful beaches
Or further afield Kho Phi Phi in Thailand has stunning, out of this world beaches....

Artandco · 30/01/2015 19:28

Ibiza is clubbing if you want, but we have been with small children and stay in the north were there's nothing in sight

thehumanjam · 30/01/2015 19:33

Avon the one we stayed at was sandy. I can't remember the name of the resort - I think it began with K. We stayed at the Athos Palace Hotel, private beach, beach bar etc. It was very nice.
