hotels in Cuba

Want to go to Cuba in February with our 13 year old DS. We would like to see Havana and spend some time on the beach. Please can anyone recommend a resort/hotel thanks

Forgot to ask is February a good time to go?

February is a fine time to visit Cuba.

I got a deal and stayed both at Hotel Inglaterra, next to the fabulous national theatre in Havana and the Nacional along the Malecon in Vedado, the only 5* hotel in Cuba. Go there just for the bar full of photos of all the famous people who've stayed there.
Both hotels were great.

In Varadero I stayed in Barlovento, AI, I enjoyed it, on the beach and near the town with two local bars (music!) within walking distance.
The further out you go the more isolated, but there is a tourist bus.
You won't be allowed any hotel you're not staying at in Varadero.
