brazil beaches??

we're looking to head to rio for october half term. everything ive read tho sounds like a handful of days is all you need so thinking we might as well get out of the city and head somewhere relatively close for a proper beach holiday. anyone have any suggestions at all? we prefer hotels and get either a suite or connecting room so would look to do the same here.

Armação dos Búzios, sometimes called just Buzios. It's a couple of hours from Rio (depending where in Rio you are). Just perfect. We spent a month in Rio years ago, but the sea was very rough, almost impossible to get in, and you have to be so careful on the beach, always keep your stuff close, we didn't really enjoy it. Then we went to Buzios, and it was just perfect!. Lovely beaches, calm waters, cafés, restaurant.

i keep seeing buzios but not finding anywhere there that's grabbed me yet. do you remember where you stayed?

Another place we wanted to go, but didn't manage was Angra Dos Reis. South of Rio.

Years ago I went to Paraty, which is about 4 hrs south of Rio. It was absolutely divine and cheap, where lots of Brazilians holiday. Recommended.

Just quoting DS here who stays with his DP's family there, but apparently the beache , though beautiful, are really mucky with dropped rubbish etc. put me off rather.

There are loads of beaches in Rio! Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon etc. We flew to Salvador and then went to Praia do Forte. Excellent beach area and clean. It is about 1 hour north of Salvador, traffic permitting .
