Any tips on the above for a honeymoon in April?

I prefer Mauritius to the Seychelles. I think it's much better value for money, there's a lot more to do and we had much better service there.
The Seychelles is very beautiful but I was a bit bored. I wouldn't go back. I will definitely go back to Mauritius.
Never been to Bora Bora, so no help there.

That sounds really negative about the Seychelles - we went there for our honeymoon and it was lovely, I just prefer Mauritius. Smile

Seychelles every time here, great variety (pick you islands ) beauty unspoilt and plenty to do, we did hiking and cycling as well as beaches and exploring

Crazyeyes86 · 27/01/2015 21:44

So level pegging so far. I am very much tempted by the beauty of the SeychelleS a but am worried there would be no excursions. I like the idea of touring the island and going out on boat trips to see Dolphins. Water sports etc. guessing Mauritius would be better for this but is the Seychelles really so much more stunning. Thanks ladies

There are definitely excursions you can do in the Seychelles. We went to Mahe, Praslin, La Digue. Where we stayed you could kayak or pedalo over to neighbouring islands.
Ther are lots of things to do in the Seychelles, but there's more variety of things to do in Mauritius, which is also very beautiful.
You'll have an amazing honeymoon whichever you choose.

We've done/are going on family holidays to both Mauritius and the Seychelles so your interests might be a bit different as a honeymooner! Surely it depends on what you like doing and exactly where you go. If you like diving, snorkelling, wildlife, jungle then there's plenty of things to do in the seychelles in addition to the beech esp if you island hop and/or choose carefully. Some of the excursions are quite expensive so plan carefully. For a honeymoon I would probably do a bit of the hol somewhere more isolated/romantic and then some of it on a bigger island like Praslin where you can hire a car/go on boat trips etc.

I liked Mauritius a lot and we had a great time there exploring the island, going to the national parks, going to the Hindu temple complex in Grand Bassin (accidentally at a major festival!), snorkelling, diving etc. Having said that, Mauritius as whole was less picture perfect than I'd imagined in some ways and certainly had its troubled areas.

Not been to Bora Bora but have been to Seychelles & Mauritius.
The Seychelles is the most beautiful place I've ever been. Praline, La Digue, Denis & Desroches. Stunning beaches, great diving it's so romantic.
No direct flights though.

Mauritius we've been with the DC. Direct flight (BA much better than AM) and there's more in the way of activities, the hotels tend to be ritzier and a bit cheaper.

Seychelles win hands down for a honeymoon, especially if you can afford to island hop a bit.

I know someone who went to bora bora and they are the best holiday photos I've ever seen.

If you can afford it go there. (I think the journey takes 2 days and at least 3 flights.

You will probably get far better suggestions going onto the individual Tripadvisor forums for each destinations.
Have a think about:

  • Budget (and whether you like luxury or cheaper - as prices are very different in each country). Admittedly we're heading to Mauritius in the summer, but it seems to be v good value for what we wanted.
  • Attitude to flying/transfers/jet lag (Mauritius you can get overnight flights with BA and you will be in a similar timezone...whereas Bora Bora...)
  • Attitude to mozzies (might not be a problem, worth asking)
  • Do you love watersports? Is water visibility an issue (if diving/snorkelling), do you want to see dolphins and whales?
Crazyeyes86 · 29/01/2015 22:55

Thanks everyone. Would it be ridiculous to fly to the Seychelles for a week? May only be able to get the week off work so now having to consider places closer to home

I'd happily do it; I very rarely go anywhere for a fortnight as we find it easy to get into "holiday mode".

It's not as if there is too much of a time difference to adjust to. With luck you'll find one of the airlines does overnight flights so you'll be able to manage 7 "busy" days there.

Eastwickwitch · 30/01/2015 09:15

I'd probably choose the Carribean over the Indian Ocean if I only had a week.

Madcats · 30/01/2015 17:10

Just to confuse things, the Caribbean is another area worth looking at. The peak season is coming to an end and it doesn't start getting annoyingly humid for another month or 2.

You are about 4-5 hours behind the UK (so it would feel like staying up late on day 1 - I'm not sure whether there are overnight flights outward).

It's probably time for you to start playing about with availability/price for a few destinations as I suspect that what you get for your money will vary wildly. Hope you enjoy wherever you end up.

Siennasun · 31/01/2015 16:13

I think the Seychelles is ok for a week. The time difference isn't loads so you'll probably be ok with jet lag.
On the other hand you may be able to get everything you want in the Caribbean, possibly cheaper.
If I were you I'd price up some options and have a look through the photos and reviews on tripadvisor Smile

bonhomme · 01/02/2015 20:06

I think there are much nicer places to holiday than Mauritius - I would say Caribbean or Maldives

bonhomme · 01/02/2015 20:08

PS if you only have a week, I would say Caribbean or perhaps Florida (plenty of dolphins)

MrsC2810 · 13/02/2015 19:24

We went to Bora Bora and it is amazing, but also alot of travelling involved. We flew from london-LA-Papeete-Bora Bora and stayed at the Four Seasons.

We haven't been to the Seychelles or Mauritius so can't comment, but the Caribbean has some gorgeous islands, we like Turks & Caicos, Trinidad and Antigua.

CPtart · 13/02/2015 20:10

The Maldives is more picture postcard perfect than Mauritius IME, with St Lucia my pick of the Caribbean.
