Sardinia in August?

Myself, DH and DD holidaying for the first time limited to school holidays. Having villa'd in France for the last 8 years or so I really fancy a change and want to try Sardinia. Have found a lovely villa near Pula (anyone been?). However all of the travel guides helpfully recommend avoiding sardinia In august due to volume of tourists and the heat. Can anyone who has visited at this time comment? One option is to go in May but then limited to 1 week by school holidays and really fancied 2. Thanks!

We've been May/June time and August. Definitely avoid August - hot and crowded as the Sardinians often work shorter days in August,so the popular beaches are full. Go in May for a week and see if you like it.

We have stayed near Pula one time and liked Chia beach, but prefer the Western coast near Oristano. In June we had the beach virtually to ourselves.

We love Sardinia, but this is also influenced by having Sardinian friends,so they can take us to the local beaches/restaurants.
Sardinians are very proud of their history and culture,so I would recommend exploring this and see how different it is to Italy.

Depends where you go I guess - went couple of years ago in August to Cannigione (NE coast) - would say busy but not unbearably so. No probs getting space on the beach etc, our pre-teens had a fab time and evenings in the local town better IMO when busier and lots going on. Would def go back in August and nothing like as hot as Turkey/Greece we found.

The worst week will be the one that includes 15/8 . I also like Cannigione area .

I suggest september. Not busy adn nice weather.
For a nice place visit Alghero.

Can't comment on August but been in May and it was gorgeous. Beaches nearly empty and no problem just walking into restaurants for dinner without booking. Stayed north of Alghero one week and one week Cannigione. Preferred west coast as much less windy (east coast known for windsurfing).
