Menorca with 9 mth old and 5 year old?

We plan on heading to Menorca in June. We have a nearly 5 year old, a 9 month old, ourselves and granny. Have never been before and wonder where would be a good area to stay. Ideally we would like:

  • Walking distance to pretty beech
  • Walking distance to shops/restaurants
  • Good public transport links as we don't plan on hiring a car
  • Relaxed, not too rowdy, but with a bit of atmosphere/character

Saw nice villas in calan Bosch and calan porter - is there much of a difference in these two locations?

Any tips greatly appreciated. Thanks

We went last June with a 10 month old and 4 year old. We stayed in Cala'n bosch. Was lovely, nice walk into the marina for food/bars and the beach was 5-10 mins from the hotel.
We did a trip to Mahon for the day. There was a pirate day boat trip which DH took ds on, I chilled on the beach with baby dd.

We'd never been to Menorca before but we'll be going back. Very family friendly

You can make use of the public buses to get to different beaches/resorts. A day in Ciutadella if you fancy a day in town/shopping is lovely, and there is a toy shop, and wonderful restaurants where DC are very welcome. Shady streets of very old architecture, very characterful. Cala Galdana is a gorgeous resort as well. I have stayed in Calan Bosch too, but although the beach was lovely, my impression of the restaurants was that they were very busy and sometimes there were queues for tables, and the food quality and service suffered. It was very 'british'.

Beach sun beds and umbrellas are expensive to hire, 18 euros for two beds and an umbrella per day. It is cheaper to buy cheap umbrellas and Lilos and re-use them, then leave whatever you can't take home there, although I appreciate granny may want to contribute to the sun bed cost for her own comfort!

Many thanks for the helpful advice. We saw a nice villa in calan porter but I'm tempted by calan Bosch now. Great tips though!
