I'm so annoyed with my flight time changes!

I booked flights last October for August this year. I paid £180 each for 4 which was more than I'd wanted to pay but we were going away with friends who'd already committed at that point so we couldn't go back to the drawing board and choose somewhere else.

Now the airline has changed the flight times and we now arrive into the airport at 9pm (was 6.45pm) when all the car hire places will be closed so we'll have to get a taxi to the villa (35 miles) and back again in the morning to get the hire car. We also don't fly back until 9.30pm (was 7pm)and arrive back at 10.30pm (was 8.10pm). We have to leave the villa at midday.

I'm annoyed because had they been the times back in October, I definitely wouldn't have paid those prices for them. DS will definitely be asleep on the return flight and it just makes it all so inconvenient. Even though I can get a full refund, the situation is that I have based a holiday around them so if I cancel them it means cancelling the whole holiday. But I feel like I've overpaid for rubbish flight times. The airline has said they can't pay for the taxi so we have to incur the extra costs to us too, which sucks. Angry

That is a bit of a pain but are you sure about the car hire place?
We have arrived at airports at all sorts of times and since they were expecting us the hire car was available.

It is so annoying when they do that. I have had that once last year and then again when my sis and family came here for xmas. They ended up getting here at midnight.

We haven't booked the car hire yet so I can't see them waiting until 9pm for us to collect it. I know they wait if your flight is delayed though.

I would be really surprised if a car hire place wasn't open. What about those people whose flights are scheduled for 9,10 or even after midnight. I would have a look first before you book a taxi.

It will depend on th airport - some smaller airports may not have any later flights coming in so the car hire places may well close.

We ran into a problem with a late flight into dublin airport once. They just closed up and went home!

Thanks all. Some interesting options. I've phoned Avis to see if there'd be someone there at 9pm and they can request a Late Greet and it will be confirmed or declined within 72 hours.

Like people have said, it won't be just us arriving at that time so I'll check with all the car hire companies with offices at the airport.

I don't think the times are that bad. We regularly fly late evenings and yes, DD may fall asleep in the car or is totally overexcited in the plane, it is not a major disaster. We just take the next day easy.

Speak to the hire companies at the air port. Late arrivals are not uncommon and most have a way to deal with it.
