Honeymoon in Nov/Dec...

We get married on Nov 21st..wanting to jet off on Mon 23rd.. budget £3500 max for 14 days all inclusive. Looking for somewhere we can relax with great weather, food, a spa and in a safe area that we can explore in the day (trips to local historical sites, shopping, bars etc.)
So far I have looked at the following destinations- Cape Verde, Caribbean (Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua) Mexico & Cuba.

Mexico comes out on top so far based on the fact you get so much more for your money. 5* Hotels with 4 restaurants, 3 pools, private beaches, adults only, Jacuzzi in every room, 4.5/5 on tripadvisor etc..

However I hate the thought of spending almost a whole day travelling which is why I am swaying towards the nearer locations...Can anyone offer any advice or recommendations?

I have been to Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua and Mexico. They are all lovely, all a days travel though but so what? Once you get there you have 14 days in fabulous tropical location! None of the places on your shortlist are really less than a days travel.
Mexico yes it can be less expensive than other carribbean locations.
November- december can be hurricane season in carribbean so check for the places you are interested in, does make it cheaper but carries a risk although may be negligible for some of them
Have a great time

Just had a thought, if you did a cruise from the UK to somewhere would that reduce your travel?

gotredonyou · 13/01/2015 11:47

Thanks for your reply Heels, I have looked into cruises but my fiancé doesn't like the thought of them.
Cape verde is only 6 hours away but there isn't much to do outside of the hotels. The travel bothers me because I hate the thought of wasting a day there and day back...hopefully it will be all worth it :)

You have to travel a long way to get the weather at that time of year.

We stayed at a Karisma resort in November. It was amazing, and about your budget. Fabulous food, basically whatever you wanted 24 hours a day, waitress service on the beach.

There were organised (cost extra) trips or you could get the bus out to local towns.

I looked at the Karisma seaside suites...looked like bliss! However another 2 hours on the coach and it seemed very secluded? Or is there so much to do in the hotel that you don't want to leave? :) xx

There's no entertainment really on site. Once or twice a week there was a themed meal on the beach though.

Maybe it'd be too quiet for you.

Belize - has it all really. Lots to see and do, stay on Ambergris Caye (la isla bonita from the Madonna song) snorkelling, sailing, walking, visiting mayan ruins, great food and even better weather. something completely different as well. if you want it warm then you are going to have to do a fair bit of travelling. also before booking check what jabs you need in case you don't have enough time before going to get them done.

Thanks everyone- this seems like the best hotel so far-www.firstchoice.co.uk/holiday/accommodation/overview/Cancun/Sun-Palace-Cancun-007164- its at the far end of the cancun strip so no noise but if we want to be apart of the action there is a bus every 10 minutes :)
Has anyone ever been? The only thing holding me back is the fact is slightly out of our price range £3800 2 weeks ai. x

Do you really want to do a fortnight? We did 10 days for our honeymoon and it was plenty long enough, even with the travel.

AnythingNotEverything · 15/01/2015 12:21

Sorry - my point was that reducing the nights will make it cheaper.

Heels99 · 15/01/2015 12:44

We loved Mexico but did find that trips etc outside the hotel were very very expensive so do budget for that too.

gotredonyou · 15/01/2015 12:53

I would prefer a fortnight- I think because its so far away I feel like we are wasting 2 days travelling! This hotel offers a in-resort Credit Offer-

'Receive up to $2500 in-resort credit to use towards facilities including special dinners, spa treatments, trips and more'

Judging from the reviews it seems you just pay the tax on the credits so you get a huge discount on excursions. x
