Spain - resorts to go to/ones to avoid?!

We're hoping to go for a week in early April, thinking southern Spain but we haven't been before so any advice much appreciated. We would not enjoy the big busier places but so many resort names are familiar without us knowing much about them so if you can point us in the right direction that would be great. ??

For early April if you want the best weather you're probably best with the Costa Del Sol. Avoid Torremolinos, Benalmadena & Fuengirola and head further west. We love Estepona which is about 1hr drive from Malaga airport. Lovely beaches, nice port, town retains its Spanish feel and plenty to see and do in the area. You will need a car though as public transport is patchy.
