I took my son to Lisbon when he was 6 and he loved it.

Lots of trams & there is the tram museum.

We only went for the weekend -- and there was plenty to do.

Lisbon is lovely. Go on the trams and the elevator thingy. There's also a cable car that was built for the Expo they had a few years back.

If you have time Sintra is an easy excursion from Lisbon and is well worth a visit.

Lisbon is really lovely. Relaxed, safe (although you do need to keep an eye on your pockets as in many big cities) and loads to do. There is a great castle to visit, fantastic sealife centre type place (but huge) and as pp mentioned, cable cars out at the Expo site. The food is really good and not too expensive and it should be reasonably warm but not scorching in April. Public transport is really good too. Second Sintra for an excursion.

We took our 7 and 4 year old. Loads to do in Lisbon and easy to reach other places. Really lovely beach at Estoril and amazing castle at Sintra both which we reached by train.
