Looking at booking a holiday in May/June for 2 weeks. One if the weeks will fall in half term. Which side would be better to book the 2nd week. Last week of term in May or first week back in June? Child is year 7 and also have younger one in year 4. Do year 7 have any assessments etc I need to think about?
We cannot go in summer hols due to husbands job. Trying to be fairish. ??
Many thanks

It depends on the school. At DS1 & DS2's school there are end-of-year exams in the week after half-term. These are used to decide setting for Y8. If the school has an online calendar, it might list the dates of any end of year exams.

Ds school also use the weeks either side of half term for exams, if the exams are the week after half term and she has missed the revision week before half term that would be very unsettling for her , if the exams are before half term then possibly after would be OK .Personally I wouldn't do it, It would be better to go early at the end of term I would have thought

Surely fair would be to only use the week given . If you left Friday eve/Sat morning it is still 8/9 days Hmm ime exams are often either immediately before and/or after May half term throughout senior school and in Year7 often dictate settings and options for the next year.

cms1974 will your school authorise the leave? if you want authorised leave then you will need to make a good case as to why you should have leave out of term time. if you are planning to actually go in May half term week then this rather blows away the argument that you can only take kids in term time due to husbands job. Its likely you will be refused especially if they realise you can take the half term week. the exceptional circumstances bit is meant to be for people who cant take any leave during school holidays no matter when they fall. with 2 children if they decide to fine then this will be £60 per parent per child - £240. can you not just go for the week leaving Friday night and getting home sunday night? whether your school has assessments or not is personal to them. DD's school doesn't but DS's school does, every year. you need to check with the school but maybe rethink.

Just go for a week!

LeBearPolar · 10/02/2015 06:58

Why do you need to go for two weeks?

FishWithABicycle · 10/02/2015 07:03

You don't need a 2 week holiday as much as your y7 dd needs to be at school for the whole summer term. A week is plenty long enough - most people can't afford more than that anyway, if they can afford a holiday at all. You don't know how lucky you are.

shinysparklythings · 10/02/2015 07:07

Just go for one week! Simples!

JeanSeberg · 10/02/2015 07:08

A week together in May then take them away for a week on your own in summer.

Can't believe you've asked if they have exams in Y7...
