Don't park in the NCP car park - over 4 hours costs about £25! Get the train. Or park a little way out and walk in.
Brighton Royal Pavilion a must.
The Pier!
Shopping in The Lanes. Shopping full stop! The North end of Brighton has some lovely different sorts of shops.
No idea about really nice places for lunch. Has most of the usual high street chains.. Carluccios, Pizza Express etc (all good in our opinion), but I'd suggest Fish & Chips really!

Try plateau, 64 degrees, graze or silo. Cheaper end of the market is iydea or foodilic which do a plate for about 7 quid, very tasty. Really no shortage of different places to est so dont go to a big chain.

The pier is great, and the wheel, but I think it's closed for maintenance at the moment. It depends what you're into, I guess. The Volk's railway is good for kids, but it sounds like you're not taking them?
