Mum's 70th Birthday Weekend - help!

It's my Mum's 70th Birthday in July 2015 and I am currently trawling the internet trying to find ideas for a weekend away for the family. There will be 9 of us in total. (7 adults and 2 children & poss 2 dogs) Wanting a Friday - Mon break but it will be during school holidays so finding it difficult to find a cottage which will take weekend only breaks. Don't fancy Center Parcs on this occasion.
Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations? As we will be paying I wasn't really wanting to spend any more than £600. Any direct links of accommodation would be much appreciated. We live in North Yorkshire but would consider anywhere in UK. A cottage/lodge is preferred rather than hotel.
Thanks so much, Cate X

Ownersdirect Uk have cottages sleeping 10 that they say they will let for a weekend. I have just found one in Stapleford Cambridgeshire for you. You need to make sure that there is a telephone number to call before you continue or hand over money.
I have booked many villas and cottages both in the UK and abroad. Best of. Luck.

westwoodlodge.co.uk/index.html is worth a look! May be a bit close to you?

The Landmark Trust might have something suitable.

Thanks so much for all your recommendations. Had a look at them all and all seem to still be around the £1000 mark which is way over my budget, but expected, I guess for School Holidays. May have to re-think :-(

What about youth hostels? there is a lovely one at Hartington!

Try www.lochlomondholidaycottage.com as we stayed there last July for weekend although I think the price would also be around £1000

Try Air bnb, I know a great ;) one for 10 but it might not take dogs ;), would cost around £500. Some people let cottages for less than a week even in school holidays ;)

www.up-front.com/eco_lodges.html

This is in the Lake District near ullswater. For the number of people you'd have to split between the Eco lodge and the main house cottage. (Very close) Dogs ok. We've stayed in the Eco lodge which is really lovely.....very light and everything very clean. They was another Eco lodge directly opposite but that doesn't seem to listed as available so maybe it's not ready yet? The cottage bit we didn't stay in but had a nosey round and it was really lovely too. There are also a couple of static caravans but everything is very spaciously set out.

It's on the site of a puppet theatre and a veggy cafe (lovely food, not nut roasts!).

pinkisthenewpink · 01/02/2015 10:44

The Eco lodge and cottage are £550 for the week, but 70% of that for shorter breaks which would bring you into your budget!
