Chicago with 2 small boys

My OH has been lucky enough to be invited out to Chicago in August to watch some golf. We were thinking of possibly using it as a family holiday as well, but this means all flying out together & me being in Chicago on my own for 3 days with our two boys (will be 3 & almost 6 by then). Is there much to do or will it just be a nightmare trying to amuse them? Our plan is to meet up after the golf & travel up to the Lakes for a week or so. Anyone who knows the area that could give me some advice?

I don't know Chicago but all American cities have child friendly parks and activities. They have a city website which would give you some info on activities for Children. Choose a hotel with a pool!!!!

it is an amazing city, I was there last month (second time). So friendly, clean & safe. i stayed at the ClubQuarters for a conference at the Westin. Both River North.

Public transport (the train) from O'Hare airport into the city is so easy. I usually take a cab anywhere but the time (40mins) especially considering traffic, and ease, as well as price ($5 as opposed to $40-80 to downtown)- made the train from the airport a no-brainer.

enjoy your trip! Especially the Magnificent Mile. Although it seems so large, I found Chicago to be a lovely walkable city. The walk out along the lake to the Aquarium on a sunny day (my last trip, 5 years ago) would be great to take kids on to let off steam by running around. Then you both can enjoy the Aquarium whilst they nap! Wink
