Manchester area-exciting activities needed for half term visit please!!

Hiya,
we are planning on coming down to the manchester area for our half term trip(we did london last year and the children really enjoyed it)so please could you point us in the direction of(free or cheap)activities to do with two children(age 6 and 2.5yrs).
Our half term is 23 Oct onwards.....thanks

interested in museums, theatre, walks,art and craft,cheap cinema days??.........anything really

We went to the Manchester Art Gallery today with our 2 children (3.5 and 2 yrs). Enjoyed it more than I thought they would.
Other places you could go are the science museum, tatton park, dunham massey park, head over heels soft play in chorlton. Gulliver's world (Warrington).
