Northern Italy or Austria accommodation recommendations please

Planning our first proper overseas holiday as a family next summer and thinking Northern Italy or Austria (or perhaps a week in each) - DC will be aged 8 and 10. Want hotel or apartment complex somewhere with good family friendly facilities (swimming pool, playground, food to suit fussy eaters, maybe table tennis / tennis or similar, suite with double room plus twin or bunk bedded room) but don't want to pay over the odds for free childcare that we won't use. Needs to have places to visit nearby (eg castles or boat trips or flat cycle routes).

Any recommendations? Have found a few possibilities on Italian Family Hotels website and Kinderhotels but difficult to know what they are really like!

Try lolling at JUFA hotels in Austria. We stayed at the one in Bad Aussee in the mountain , lake area near Salzburg this summer and it was fab.
Flights to Austria were expensive except Esyjet to Vienna from Gatwick.
Trains and buses were good. All train fares are the same, no off peak etc

Lake Garda has loads of accommodation and is utterly beautiful. The town of Garda is on the south eastern side of the lake and has a flat path for walkers and cyclists that runs alongside the lake as far as Bardolino. There are several bike hire shops in Garda.

The hotel we stayed in had families staying and had a pool, table tennis and table football, but no playground. DD was 11 at the time so we had a family room. The food was OK, but not spectacular and if you have fussy eaters it probably wouldn't suit them.

You can explore the lake by ferry very easily and it is the best way to see the lake. We visited several different towns. The bus service is also very good, but as I don't like bus travel we didn't use it, preferring to take the ferry.

Try Familotel website, also look at Inntaler Hof near Seefeld,
www.inntalerhof.com/en/top/hotel-inntaler-hof.html
We had an amazing holiday there 2 years ago. Lots of sports in Seefeld. Easy train ride from Innsbruck with things to do
