That's quite a broad question - what sort of weekend do you fancy? City break, countryside, spa? And what's your budget?

The city would be good. But anywhwere will do. We both just need a break.

I've always loved Chester - lots of history, nice pubs/restaurants, lovely countryside nearby, great shops. Haven't stayed at this place but it looks nice and gets rave reviews on tripadvisor.

Personally though if it was me I'd go back to Seaham Hall - not much in te surrounding area apart from beautiful rugged coastline, but the spa is so fab

Just seen the special offers at Seaham Hall - wish my two tiny ones were a bit bigger

Bruges is wonderful this time of year. Chocolate shops and Belgian beer and the general romatic atmosphere make it superb for a winter break away. The hotels are reasonably priced. If it is cold, it doesn't really matter and there is just enough to do for a weekend. The place feels nice and quiet, all to youself. Plenty of restaurants and cafe, a lot of which have open fires.

Try Eurostar or self drive if you live in London/SE. Driving is good - only an hour from Calais. Or fly if further north. You can book hotels direct from laterooms.com and find cheap ferry travel. Although there are no doubt some cheap deals on flights etc as well.

Oooh yes Bruges is just gorgeous, so romantic and loads to see/eat.

Another thought in the UK was the Ashdown Park Hotel in Ashdown forest. Again a lovely spa in gorgeous countryside less than an hour from London (if that's where you are)

Prague is brilliant, we had an excellent weekend there earlier in the year and it is REALLY cheap once you are there.
