Am here in Melbourne for a week, casing the joint. Looking at schools, checking out the shopping etc (all top notch I have to say)
Staying with DH and kids in teeny weeny flat ....
And today, my biggest nightmare happened - it was MASSIVE, thick hairy legs thicker than my fingers, in total bigger than DH's whole hand
Puts Suzy's kitten's paw story to shame I tell you ....

Ok ... so it was behind glass in Melbourne Museum - and isn't a native of Australia (a Brazilian Elephant Eating Jumping Tree Spider or something) BUT I have seen a spider on Australian soil and I am still ALIVE!!!!!

BTW ... not seen anything more scary than a couple of teeny ants after DD's biscuit crumbs in the flat

Quite nice here really

we just got this plug in - Raid thingy - keeps away flies and mozzies - fab and covers a huge area.

mosschops30 · 02/10/2006 13:13

i was in Oz for a month and never saw one, but did look under the toilet seat all the time.
I am hoping to move out there eventually but am terrified of seeing a biggie, I can cope with little ones but the thought of seeing a big hairy spider, i think I might have a heart attack

HauntedsandCastle · 02/10/2006 13:14

eidsvold, that's going on the shopping list too!

eidsvold · 02/10/2006 13:15

if the hosue is screened should have no probs - we jsut need to get our screens replaced - getting bad and old!!

But we use it when we are downstairs and it is fab - don't seem to need it upstairs - usually eat out downstairs and with people coming in and out doors mozzies get in.

Can get an outdoor candle by raid as well - good - put that on the middle of the table - or good old citronella works wonders as well.

HauntedsandCastle · 02/10/2006 13:16

moss, I have been told that they only get under the toilet seat if not particularly clean...

gawd I hope so....otherwise I will have to start checking...
