South of France in late June- will there be mosquitoes?

Looking at booking le serignan plage through Yelloh (about 10k from Beziers), and it looks lovely, but the accommodation listing mentioned mosquito nets - are there likely to be loads? They seem to love me and I take a bad allergic reaction to the bites, don't want to book if they're going to be a big problem!

I live not too far from here but further inland. There are definitely mozzies around in late June. Especially around stagnant water, streams or forests.

They a much less of a problem by the sea. My advice would be to avoid a wooded campsite.

I live in south Germany and yes they will be around, hopefully not too many though.

I'm in the South of France and sorry to break this to you, but we still have mosquitos.

Worst of all, they don't only come out at night. They are around in the daytime, too.

Not your normal mosquitos, either. We also have tiger mosquitoes from Africa who have taken up residence around here in the last couple of years. They are huge, striped, and their bite is much worse than the normal little mosquitos.

You might consider not coming if you feel that strongly about mosquitos.

I went to that campsite last year in early July. I can confirm it was amazing, but there were lots if mosquitos.

iwantgin · 23/10/2014 10:02

Op - I can't answer your query, but just hijacking slightly.. ;)

cote d'azur is this why I got bitten so badly in July? i rarely get bothered by mosquitos - but this summer i was covered. Still have red marks leftover.

CoteDAzur · 23/10/2014 10:09

Probably. The 'tiger' breed of mosquitos we have now is very different than the normal mosquito. They are around even in the daytime, under the sun, and their bites are much worse.

It's late-October, and I'm still sending DC to school sprayed with mosquito repellent. I don't understand why they can't solve this problem. We spent two months on the beach in Turkey this summer and didn't come across a single mosquito. OP - That's where you go if you have a problem with mosquitos.

Lweji · 23/10/2014 10:12

It will depend on the weather conditions when you go.

If you decide to go, make sure you have a good repellent with a high concentration of DEET.

Interesting link thanks cote

Pesky things.

CoteDAzur · 23/10/2014 10:16

No relation to weather conditions. If it's not raining, they are everywhere. Day and night.

They do go away for a while between December and March, but then they are back Sad

I'm the same op. I live in the West of Scotland so we are plagued with midgies all the time - when I go on holiday I try to find mozzie-lite places too.

LauraPashley · 26/10/2014 19:37

Thank you all! And cote that sounds just horrific! Do your kids get badly bitten? I am looking at seaside campsites so hoping they will be a bit less of a problem, but I am reading all the reviews that mention daily mass spraying at each camp! Glad to hear serignan plage is nice anyway! I also looked at Porto felice near venice I'm guessing that will be the same?!
I am west coast of scotland too! And yes the midges just love me. Pests!!
