Kos town in April - tell me more!

I love Greece at Easter and have just found a really good deal to kos town in April, but have never been to Kos! Will gave dc with me age 11 and 13. Will we like it and what will weather be like? Am imagining it will be around 17-20 degrees so maybe a bit chilly for sea/pool but still ok for trips to hot springs, turkey, semi etc? Any input more than welcome, thanks!

Kos is fabulous. But, in April many places such as restaurants will still be closed. Zombie went in May (11th - 18th) last year (her 5th visit to Kos Town) and at least half the restaurants she goes to regularly in season were still closed. If she recalls correctly, at least one of the town trains wasn't running then either.

Other than that, yes, there is still a lot to enjoy. Therma will still be HOT. Asklepion (Hipporcates' hospital) is a must see IHO. A day trip to the island of Nissaros to visit the volcano is good. You can walk down onto the floor of the volcano and see the sulphur blooms. Zombie hasn't been to Bodrum (Turkey) but it is a popular day trip for many.

Fab thank you. I used to live on Crete so I know resorts will be dead but I know Heraklion was still busy enough, and it tended to be the proper Greek restaurants that were open! Day trips sound fab, what we're looking git - and it's sooooo cheap and more 'me' than the canaries! Thanks!

I used to live in Bodrum and the weather was usually nice in April, about 20 degrees, the sea and the pools (if open) were freezing though and it got very cold at night. I should imagine it would be the same in Kos being it's only a few miles away. Kos town is very nice but would be quiet out of season. The ferry runs to Turkey but the day trips don't usually start until May.

Thanks Sootica, we're expecting it to be quiet - and hopefully Greek rather than touristy! zombie, can you, or anyone else recommend any particular hotels? We want to be dead centre as it's a quiet time of year.

I went to Kos last year for the first time since the 1980s (although I visit Greece at least once a year). The harbour in Kos town is lovely and there are plenty of nice restaurants. I too would recommend the Asklipion and the trip to Nissyros - we saw a pod of half a dozen dolphins who followed our boat and were showing off like mad - amazing experience.

However, it's not particularly Greek compared to other areas I've visited, such as the mainland, Lefkas, Samos or even Skiathos and I wouldn't go back. It's very popular with the British but at that time of year I don't think it will be especially touristy and I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Thanks Louise, one of the reasons for going out if season us to avoid the Pacis of Brits abroad! Am hoping that it'll be the more Greek restaurants that are open then rather than tourist ones! Glad to hear a second vote for some of the trips - hopefully no crowds either!!
