Holiday ideas with 11 month old

Hello all,

We are looking at going on holiday in February when DD will be 11 months old. Ideally we would like to go somewhere a bit further afield after holidaying in Europe this summer.

So far DH has suggested a Californian road trip, Costa Rica and Japan. I'm not sure how enjoyable any of these places will be with an almost 1 year old.

Anyone have any advice on the above/further suggestions from their previous experience?

Thanks!

I personally think a flight to The west coast of the States and then a subsequent road trip with a 1 year old would be torturous....but maybe I'm lacking a sense of adventure....

I think we managed a trip to the west coast of Ireland in luxuary accomodation and that was hard enough Grin

I'm sure some better advice is on its way though ....

Happy hols

Costa Rica would be better. I would never do a road trip with a toddler - they are just too active. Japan is a great holiday destination - just not with a toddler. I would go to a decent island in the Carribbean, to a decent hotel and have a few day trips by hiring a car. We like Virgin Gorda. Tortola is pretty too and there are more secluded islands. Great beaches and fabulous villas. Other islands to visit too. I think your DH is far too ambitious at this stage! Does he like driving with a baby?

Caribbean could be good, thanks milly, although DH not keen on too much of a 'do nothing but lie on a beach' holiday so we'd have to look at day trips out and about. Hence Costa Rica.
To be fair to him he was suggesting minimum drives in the US - 3 hours every couple of days. DD sleeps fine in the car but that kind of trip still may be hard going for all of us!
only Ireland could actually be great; am imagining nice walks and beautiful scenery but I'm guessing the weather will be iffy in feb!

We went to Jamaica when DS was 1 in January - weather was perfect and managed a couple of day trips during the week - south florida might also be a good option then you can drive down to the keys, we went to florida when DS2 was 7 months (also in january) and it was an easy holiday with a baby. A bit of a different choice is Oman, there is a lovely resort called the shangri la barr al jissah which is very child friendly - i went there ages ago pre kids, and there is enough culture and places to visit to keep you occupied, and its also possible to drive to Dubai from there.

Thanks pashmina, Florida could be a good idea. Also like the idea of Oman, we've travelled in the middle east before so that could be interesting for us. Will do some research!
