Help! Laid back August family holiday suggestions/ideas please

Any ideas for August summer family holiday for family of 4. Was thinking maybe Algarve/Lisbon/France but open to suggestions for destinations/resort and accomodation. Would consider self catering/private let, low key hotel b & b, upmarket camping but not AI.

Low key/easy holiday, not too frantic a pace, nice restaurants, relaxing, sunshine (but not silly temperatures) or at least a cooling day time breeze, a pool (to read and relax around), English speaking kids (so the kids can make holiday friends) a variety of nice restaurants not too far away, nice scenery.

Kids upper juniors so not tots and probably won't hire a car.

Thank you very much ??

Less than 5 hours flying time.

Jersey, France, Scilly Isles, Northern Spain, Sweden could be interesting with varying options for accommodation. I would definitely look at Western France and lots of people really rate Jersey for families.

You would need a car for this one, because it's in the middle-of-nowhere (but within 30 mins of lots of pretty towns) but otherwise I think it fits your criteria. We went there this year (drove down) and booked again straight away for next year - really relaxing, other kids all English - they formed a gang, we hardly saw them, lovely pool, also enormous trampoline, games room (table football, darts, table tennis, snooker etc), football pitch, bikes to borrow, outdoor games to borrow. Scenery not dramatic but nice - sunflower fields and gently rolling hills.

They may be full for August next year though as it has a large returning clientelle (a good sign!). It's on the Mumsnet recommended list of european self-catering.

Thanks all. Love age this sounds idyllic especially if you were lucky enough to get nice families there at the same time with similar aged children (not all tots or moody teenagers). If only it was a little closer to the coast.

Please keep the ideas coming.

Malta? WE have done it a couple of times and there is definitely a laid back vibe about Malta. If you stay in one of the bigger resorts you can get coach transfers from the airport.

I have visited Malta many years ago pre children and loved it but thought August sun/heat might be too overpowering for us all these days.

Sant Angelo village campsite, Venetian Riviera. Don't need a car, fly to Venice. B us outside campsite goes to Venice, Lido de Jesolo etc. Direct access to great beach. Or Camping Le bois de Valmarie, South of France. Very laid back, beautiful French hamlet on the beach, Pyrenees in the background. Both are 4/5 star campsites. Sant Angelo a bit livelier and full on, Bois de Valmarie very laid back., Our kids love them.

After a lot of research we have finally settled on Carvoeiro in Portugal. Thanks all. Their is a cooling breeze, plenty of shade, a fabulous looking apartment with 2 bedrooms, 5 small pools and plenty of families and children around, lots of lovely restaurants, street entertainers, beautiful scenery and plenty of beaches in the area to explore.
