end of the summer sun family holiday

just planning a holiday to catch the end of the summer sun with my 2 DC's (both pre-school) & partner. I've heard that Thomson are pretty good - any views?

as it is already October, 'where' is more important. The package companies will happily send you to places that really are not suitable for a beach holiday in late October.

I'd say The Canaries, 4 hour flight and mid 20°, Lanzarote is especially fab. We went to Costa Teguise and at every turn there were playgrounds. The DCs loved it.

who did you book with? Are Thomson any good?

We've been with Thomson they were fine, and have booked to go again with them next year. Have done a few independent holidays in between.

As mentioned, be careful you don't go to a resort where everything is closing down, lots of places from mid Oct have only half to a quarter of the facilities and restaurants open and stuff.

You need a year round resort.

We have been away with Thomsons a few times and have been happy with them.

I agree that at this time of year, if you want decent weather then The Canaries are a better bet.

However, we didn't like Costa Teguise at all. It is completely devoid of any character, has no harbour or centre and has too many bars selling English beer and showing English football on TV.

don't read brochures - read guidebooks. Read tripadvisor with a big pinch of salt.

then decide where you'd like to go, then look round for the best deal.

When we go on a package we always use Thomson.
I'd recommend Cyprus at this time of year.
