Where's hot and not too far at end of February?

We want to go away for a week and seem to have narrowed it down to the Canaries or Sharm El Sheik, is there anywhere else we should consider which will be just as warm and not much further away?

Will Canaries and Egypt be hot enough to lie out in the sun/sit on the beach at that time of year? I'm worried it might be a bit chilly. Don't want to go much further as have two young kids.

Thanks!

tenerife will be warm enough to lie at the pool/beach, the water wll be a bit cold mind you and it can get a bit chilly at nights (well did when i was there)

Red Sea will definitely be warm enough for pool, beach, sea etc. Think the Med in June. We go most years and I love it! People are so friendly there and the snorkelling is wonderful. Have a look at this hotel... Stella Di Mare

Cape Verde?

Balonz · 03/10/2014 13:57

Is Dubai too far?

AliBingo · 03/10/2014 14:04

Thanks, I thought Cabaries may be a little chilly so Egypt better but then worried about terrorism/security in Egypt and also food poisoning.

I also wondered about Cape Verde, probably our limit flightwise, but when I googled people said it can be cold and windy in Feb.

Dubai would be great but a bit far and out of budget I think, alas.

If you do choose any of these destinations try and get a heated pool.

AliBingo · 03/10/2014 14:20

Some of the brochures mention "acclimatised" pool, is that the same thing or not quite?

I am not sure sorry. You could try looking up the hotel for last Feb reviews on Tripadvisor. If they say things like lovely hotel but the pool was too cold for the children to use then it may be worth choosing another hotel.

weather not guaranteed at either but odds are good.

of course at the latitude of both, deliberate sunbathing is daft. But it will be very pleasant.

Dubai is gorgeous in February.

Morocco would be hotter than here and there are no time zone issues. It is only 3.5 hours from Gatwick. DH and I went to Marrakech for our anniversary a few months ago and it was too hot at midday for much more than sleeping after a big lunch. We became nocturnal - like everyone else there! We want to go back to Fez or Essouria with the DCs when DSS (6 and Dyspraxic) is more spatially aware and less likely to run into a road/grab a snake/cuddle a monkey!

In Egypt the sea will be warm and days lovely, but you need a hotel with a heated pool. In a good hotel, there should be no worries re food poisoning. Security - see what the Foreign Office is saying, afailk in a resort you should be as safe as you can be anywhere else right now.

We went to the travel agents and were really put off by their comments about Sharm El Sheik airport and armed guards at hotels etc (we are chickens/very risk averse I guess) and Canaries not quite warm enough so we've decided to wait until June and go somewhere in the Med. In the meantime we've booked a short break at Bluestone Pembrokeshire for Feb, thanks to Mumsnet threads and reviews.

Thanks for all your help!
