Anyone been to Split or surrounding area?

And if so can you recommend nice hotels?

We stayed in Baska Voda on the Makarska riviera a few years ago and absolutely loved it. It is about 1.5 hours from Split.

I'm starting quite early this year with my holiday 2015 search. We always do our own booking rather than use a holiday company and I'm looking for something a bit different this year.

We stayed here. It ticked all the right boxes for us. The swimming pool is very deep and not for non swimmers, although DD was 9 and could swim by then.

Sorry another question. Do you think that Baska Voda has enough going on to stay there 2 weeks or should I consider the bigger town Makarska? I will have my easily bored DS16 in tow so need non-rowdy bars with music or entertainment for the evenings, ferry or buses available to visit other towns etc.

DD was 9 when we went there so going to bars wasn't part of our holiday. There were bars and loads of places to eat and plenty for us to do. I suspect that your son might find Makarska more interesting.
