Gambia off where else in February?

Figster · 24/09/2014 19:15

Properly miffed off as our 10 night holiday to Gambia with Thomas Cook in February has been cancelled and though they offering different dates they don't suit us.

Have told Thomas crook where to stick it and looking to start again dh works in financial services so we can't go March and my leave year ends in April so as to not lose days we need to go jan or feb.

Looking for somewhere not long haul ideally at most 5-6 hours away and need inspiration as it's not an ideal time of year.

Any ideas??

Cape Verde? Never been but have two sets of friends who say it's a lovely place.

Figster · 24/09/2014 21:53

I've looked at Cape Verde not sure there's enough to do there unfortunately thanks though

Costa Rica. But maybe too far, but ideal time of year and it looks amazing. I'm desperate to go.

Figster · 24/09/2014 21:59

Costa Rica is high on my list been to Borneo and Sri Lanka and see it in the same scope but it's just so much ££££££ and yup bit too far. Maybe one day

The canary islands? Malta?

StairsInTheNight · 24/09/2014 22:04

Egypt?

Bunbaker · 24/09/2014 22:08

Malta won't be very warm in February.

StairsInTheNight · 24/09/2014 22:12

Do I mean Madeira?

VivaLeBeaver · 24/09/2014 22:18

Costa Rica is probably expensive if you do a package but if you DIY its not bad.

Flights are the worst but I found nice accommodation at a decent price.

I had a full itinery planned, worked out transfers, locations, hotels and the. The no term time holiday came into rule and wrecked it all.

Gambia without Thomas Cook?

Figster · 25/09/2014 13:57

To go with Gambia experience or others we looking at more money to go for a week than were paying for 10 nights.

Have come round to Egypt a little bit actually but never been so not sure would need to do trips out of hotel all inclusive resorts get boring quickly for me

I go away nearly every Feb so here are the places I have been to then.
Cape Town (long flights but no jet lag and my best holiday ever)
Caribbean (longish flights but great weather)
Pacific side of Mexico on a cruise from L.A (long flight but so worth it)
Dubai (mid haul flight and good weather)
Tenerife twice ( had lovely weather twice but not sure if I was lucky or if that's the norm)
Somewhere I haven't been but want to try is Oman.

nannyafrica · 26/09/2014 21:53

Have you looked on Travelsupermarket.com they have lots of holidays to Gambia with different operates in Feb.

pippibuzzmarten · 26/09/2014 21:56

A little out of your distance / time range but how about South India? Goa or Kerala?

MexicanSpringtime · 26/09/2014 22:00

Mexico, Costa Rica and the Caribbean are all further than you want to travel, approx. 12 hour flight. Shame

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 26/09/2014 22:05

The Caribbean is not a 12 hour flight.

MexicanSpringtime · 27/09/2014 03:47

Well Mexico City is, so the Caribbean is still way more than the length of flight the OP wants.

StairsInTheNight · 27/09/2014 07:02

If you want a short flight and sun in Feb your choices are the Canaries, the Gambia or Egypt really.
