St Ives Alternative

We love St Ives and have visited many times. However, next year we would like to try somewhere new but that has a similar atmosphere. Our children are aged 7 and 5 so we are looking for something self catering but with the ability to walk into a village / town and eat out a couple of times. We would like to be coastal. Any suggestions? Thanks

St Agnes might suit you, it is a lot smaller than St Ives, but has a lovely beach at Trevaunance Cove, a few good restaurants (and a couple of very decent pubs where they are happy for the children to eat with you up til 10pm) Plenty of self catering accommodation in the village, though it is a bit of a trek back up the road from the beach at the end of the day. I prefer it to St Ives, not so much traffic! I'd also suggest looking at St. Mawes.

I don't know the south coast as well, but I have friends who stay in Fowey or Mevagissey every year, and say it's similar to St Ives.
