Slim car seat needed for long haul flight with Air France

Hi, we are flying long haul UK to Mauritius with a 21 month old, (over 15 kgs) and the Air France has told us the car seat can be no wider than 42cm. I'm finding it impossible to find one that slim. Can anyone recommend one? thank you.

Why do you need a car seat?
I'm just curious, no advice to give sorry, as I've never seen one used on a plane.

We would like him to have his own seat and as it is a 12 hour night flight we thought he would be able to sleep much better in a car seat. It is also safer I've read.

Has your child actually got a seat of his/her own to use?.

I would not bother taking such an item with you because you will find it nigh on impossible to find a seat that will fit the aircraft seat. Carrying that down a narrow aisle of a plane would be an endurance test. You'd be better off using a far lighter and easier to carry pillow type cushion for your child.

Do not rely on the airline to fully provide re foodstuffs; take what he/she likes and plenty of it along with a change of clothes for both of you in case of spills.

I cant find one slimmer than about 45/46cm. What about a CARES harness?

I wouldn't worry about safety - I doubt a car seat will make much difference in the event of a crash. Concentrate on how to entertain them for the flight instead

When I flew long haul with BA they had a limited number of child seats that fitted at the front on the bassinet shelf - they were for children over 6 months iirc (DS was 5 months so in a bassinet).

Such a 4 point harness is not without problems either particularly if child is very active. They can slip down in such a thing.

Don't take a car seat. It will cause so many problems. Ok child may sleep for a bit in it but when awake there is no where you'd be able to put it so child will be stuck in it for the full flight and that's not good. Space is limited.

Under 2 will still need to sit on your lap for TO and landing even if they have their own seat. Take a pillow and some toys. He/she will be fine.
