Is it cheaper to buy sun cream when I'm there? And how about things like beach towels? Did you go on the railway to Soller? Am I wise to plan to take dcs 9,6 and 2 on it?

Also, If you hired a car, who with?

Thanks :-)

Sun cream more expensive in majorca. Lots of Mallorca beach towels to buy for about 10euros.

We went on the train. Lovely views, and quite a long dark tunnel, which is quite noisy with the windows down. You can catch a tram down to the harbour at Soller and back before getting the train back to Palma, but we didn't have time to fit it all in. I think you need to get the 10.40 train at the latest for it to work, or else you can't get a train back to Palma before 6.30. Soller is nice - lots of cafes round the central square. Not sure whether the 2 year old (or possibly the 6 year old) would really appreciate it that much TBH. Quite expensive too with over-6s paying full price.

We used Centauro? car hire, probably through carjet. Off airport, but totally fine.

Two things to watch out for - the Full/Empty fuel scam where they make you pay for a full tank of fuel at an extortionate rate and tell you to bring back empty - you would have to do loads of driving to do this, although we nearly managed it staying near Palma and taking one trip to Port Soller, one to Pollensa and Formentor, and one to the east side near to Cala DOr, along with a couple of local trips.

Also a high daily rate (up to 8 euros per day) for extra insurance even though they tell you it is fully inclusive when booking - you can get annual policies that might work out cheaper, or we paid carjet 2 per day last time - much cheaper.

Suncream almost certainly cheaper here - I got a load on sale from Asda for a pound a bottle a couple of weeks ago - we always use supermarket own brand (Asda/Aldi/whatever and it's always fine).

We take our own beach towels along with normal luggage and snorkelling kit - DP and I have one checked suitcase between us (you need at least one if you want to take enough suncream for a start as bottles are above 100 ml) and a wheelie case that can be taken as hand luggage, plus DP usually takes a rucksack full of man crap (tablet, camera, charger etc).
