We have been offered the chance of an adults only break, paid for by the MIL who will provide child care too!
We need to find a lovely hotel with excellent restaurant that is about an hours drive from the Birmingham area (or closer) in any direction!
I'm a 4-5* girl with a taste for really good food and wine.
Can any one recommend somewhere? We like quirky too!

New Hall in Sutton Coldfield- has a spa and good restaurant and beautiful grounds, but is very popular for weddings which can take the place over a bit, so check if you book.

Littlefish · 09/09/2014 21:23

Brockencote Hall in Chaddesley Corbett is supposed to be lovely too.

And sorry if I sound like a twat!! Was trying to get the idea across in a short statement.
I'm nice really!! GrinGrin

You don't sound like a twat at all! You sound like someone I feel really jealous of! I would love a child free weekend somewhere gorgeous. I hope you find somewhere lovely. Smile

Could you reach Manoir Quatre Saisons in an hour? Amazing food and very comfortable.

rootypig · 10/09/2014 06:39

How big of a budget does MIL have? because if you drove really fast you could definitely get to Le Manoir Grin

rootypig · 10/09/2014 06:40

great minds, Eastpoint!

Eastpoint · 10/09/2014 06:40

Just did a bit of research & it's Manoir aux quar'saisons & 71 miles from Birmingham airport so probably too far. It's a long time since I've been (19 years but the food was so good).

Eastpoint · 10/09/2014 06:41

Quat'. Really should get up instead of MNetting in bed.

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 07:43

I'd LOVE to go to Manoir and it's a fine distance but I know it's HORRIFICALLY expensive to stay - looking at about £150-200 a night per room maxi would say.
Champagne tastes with (quality) lemonade pockets! GrinGrinGrin

What about the hotel du vin in Birmingham? Or do you want somewhere in the countryside?

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 08:17

Preferably out of Birmingham....my oh hates the place! dissin my home town Wink

Country or city or town? You've got tonnes of options! midlands innit. I'd probably go Cotswolds if I were you.

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 09:18

yes to the Cotswolds - quite fancied the Crazy Bear at Staghampton here BUT it's got really varied reviews, and even the better ones have something negative to say!
We just want somewhere really lovely to spend some time together.

Lygon arms in Broadway.

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 09:20

the MIL suggested here....but I don't know....it just looks a bit ordinary. My OH suggested a barn conversion or cottage close to lovely restaurants which is also a possibility....like windrushbarn.co.uk/about.html

Cotswold House Hotel, Chipping Campden;
Charingworth Manor, Chipping Campden;
Manor House Hotel, Moreton-in-Marsh;
Lygon Arms, Broadway;
Dormy House Hotel, Broadway;
Ettington Park Hotel, just outside Stratford-upon -Avon;

All amazing places where I would love to stay!

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 10:08

love the look of the Manor House Hotel at Moreton-in-Marsh and they do a food and wine lover's 2 night stay. That might be the one!! thanks for all the suggestions.

I spent last New Year just outside Moreton! we rented a house but there was a fantastic pub. If you go, check it out - would be a lovely walk up and change of scene for lunch or dinner.

Booking is a must.

Manor House looks beautiful.

bberry · 10/09/2014 10:18

Coombe abbey near coventry...v quirky, you could have a feature room (a bookcase that opens to reveal the bathroom)and private dining fir dinner?

Or

Ettington park hotel - beautiful gothic architecture

BlessThisMess · 10/09/2014 10:22

In that case, Blue, mutter 'Mumsnet' as you walk round Moreton and if I hear you as I do my shopping I'll say hi!

stealthsquiggle · 10/09/2014 10:24

How about the elms?

Blueistheonlycolour · 10/09/2014 22:09

We're going to the Lake Vyrnwy hotel in Wales. Got a good deal on travelzoo and MIL is paying to upgrade us to a lake view superior room. SmileSmileSmile
