We went to Majorca in June, specifically cos we wanted short-haul. We could have paid £800 or less but went for a £1200 one. Didn't get any deals cos we booked quite late. Only two hours from Manchester, surprisingly nice beaches and coves, family friendly, not too tacky (thought Majorca might be - would never have gone there in childfree days!). Ours are 4 and 2. Didn't avail ourselves of childcare other than nighty mini-disco, but kids we saw seemed happy enough. We went with Cosmos but dont' think it made a difference - most apartment complexes seemed to have their own child entertainment staff. Bit vague I know, but hope it helps.

PS - By June, I mean the beginning of June ie within school holidays.

we went to porto colom in majorca a couple of years ago. I think I have reviewed it on mumsnet. We stayed at the ola club cecilia complex on the beach (cala marsal is the beach name). Had a GREAT time!! entertainers for very good day and night. We have 5 children so it cost us a lot, but would probably be reasonable for you. Recommend it definitely. Very, very child friendly - IF you stay at the beach resort. There were other hotels towards the (rather plain) harbour: I don't think they would be anything special only cos the beach made it for us: warm sea, shelving sand, immaculately kept.
